After some chat on our forum, TR7 fruitcake (and I mean that nicely) and film buff John Clancy has taken an initial idea -for a short film montage of the Triumph TR7 - to the next stage.... and that next step is the full-blown professional DVD release.
The DVD will probably run to around 2hrs - including never-seen-before video footage, the TR7 adverts used by British Leyland back in the 70's, a section on the rallying history - from the initial 2.0l developments through to the fire-breathing v8 monsters.
TriumphTR7.com have also put John in touch with Harris Mann (don't you dare ask "who?") for an exclusive interview that will be recorded in early 2007. Other enthusiasts have come forward to offer unique access to historic information that has never been made public before - some of this came to light after the short 'preview' of the DVD that was playing on the TR Drivers Club stand at this years (2006) Classic Car Show at the NEC.
If you're interested in obtaining a copy please drop me a line - the cost has yet to be finalised but it will be under £20 per DVD.... We include the latest from the producer below!
It's sometime off until this is ready for glass pressing and the issues of copyright are currently being dealt with. Much of the material that has been found over the years on the internet is now proving to be untraceable so there isn't an awful lot that can be done about it. A few recent video clips of Bert Smeets in JJO and Steve Rockingham in SJW 548S are already slated to appear (if you saw the demo disc running at the NEC then you will have already seen these). If you think you may be the owner of these clips please get in touch in order that the relevant credit can be included.
There are some shots which may prove impossible to get copyright clearance and in preparation for possible problems and hold-ups in this regard does anyone have any footage of the Ex-Works rally cars that the producer would be allowed to use? There will of course be a complimentary copy of the finished disc for anyone who supplies clips that are included. Please reply direct to John Clancy or to me and I will forward any correspondence on.
The NEC showing looks like it has resulted in some material coming to light which has never been seen before. We'll just have to wait and see at this stage but it's looking very encouraging. The production is receiving the assistance of a team of ex-BBC film editors so we should be assured a good product in the end. The running time thus far is around 40 minutes with new material slated to be shot around the country. The finished product should be in excess of an hour. Extras are also planned as well as a TRDC special edition double disc set.
